Diary of a Seraph was a studio recording by Hayden Anhedönia, released under her current stage name, Ethel Cain. Initially planned for a release under the alias White Silas, the project was eventually released on October 6, 2019, via SoundCloud, before being deleted. As of now, the project is considered lost and is no longer available for listening.
Background[]
Development[]
Between 2018 and 2019, Anhedönia recorded songs intended for what would become Diary of a Seraph. The project was never fully completed and has been described as less polished than her later works released under the Ethel Cain name.[1] Anhedönia herself described the songs from the album as demos. Although originally planned for release in 2018, the album was ultimately scrapped for unknown reasons. It was later rediscovered by Anhedönia in 2019 and briefly released that same year.
According to insiders, the project was structured more as a compilation or an extended play (EP) than a fully realized record. The title, Diary of a Seraph, appears to reflect the imagined life of a seraph—a celestial being in Judaism and Christianity, often described as a six-winged angel who serves at the throne of God.
Release and Promotion[]
The album had an extremely short-lived release. On October 6, 2019, Anhedönia briefly uploaded Diary of a Seraph to SoundCloud. Shortly after, she made an announcement on her now-deleted Twitter account, explaining that she had decided to share the project with her fanbase despite originally scrapping it.[2] The album remained available for only a day before being taken down.
Prior to the project's release, two songs had been shared: one currently unidentified track, and the confirmed song "Plague." However, it remains unclear whether these tracks were intended as official singles or simply shared informally and without specific promotional intent.
